'Now that I'm free to be myself, who am I?'  (Mary Oliver)

Friday 23rd - Sunday 25th September 2022

Cost: £175pp - Includes meals, refreshments and accommodation

A creative space to reflect on the impact that change has on our lives.

Change can mean very different things to different people at different times of our lives. It can hold threat or promise for us. This weekend is an opportunity to pause, take a deep breath and be still.

We will engage with art, poetry, scripture, music, and times of silence, bringing our personal situation into the presence of God. There we can encounter the source of peace, love and hope.

This retreat is likely to contain:

  • Silence
  • Arts and crafts
  • Music
  • Poetry
  • Spiritual direction
  • Personal development

Retreat Leaders: Wendy & Andrew Rudd

Andrew Rudd is passionate about finding wonder in the ordinary. In this he is helped particularly by poetry, music, nature and two wonderful grandchildren. He lives in Frodsham, Cheshire, where he is a Reader at St Laurence Church. Andrew is a poet and spiritual companion and leads retreats and quiet days. In 2006 he was Cheshire Poet Laureate, and is currently Poet in Residence at Manchester Cathedral. He has mostly retired from ‘gainful employment’, apart from teaching Spirituality and New Testament to ordinands and trainee Readers.

Wendy Rudd is a listener and an artist. She is interested in how we can glimpse God in the ordinary: nature, creativity or encounter with others. Often in unexpected places. She has spent a lifetime working with children who have additional needs, and their families. These days, she offers others a safe space in listening and spiritual accompaniment.

Individually Guided Retreat

Monday 21st - Thursday 24th November 2022

Cost: £225pp - Includes meals, refreshments and accommodation

Have you ever thought how wonderful – and how challenging - it might be to step out of the busy-ness of getting ready for Christmas, turn off your phone, leave your jobs behind, and offer your full attention to God who loves you?

This retreat is a breathing-space. A time to rest.  A time to listen to God. And to have someone to listen to you.

The retreat starts before supper on Monday 21st November and finishes mid-morning on Thursday 24th.  For most of Tuesday and Wednesday we will be in silence.  But don’t panic! Silence isn’t a void, an emptiness. It is a space to be filled..

Each retreatant will be allocated a prayer-guide.  They will meet you for about 30 minutes each day to suggest ways to relax and to pray with a passage of Scripture.

Everyone will be encouraged to set aside particular times for private prayer and there will also be (optional) worship together. There will be plenty of time for relaxation.

The retreat is for anyone of any tradition or situation who is seeking to live their life within the framework of Christian faith. (It may not be helpful for people recently bereaved or going through great stress. Other support may be more appropriate.)

This retreat is likely to contain:
•   Silence
•   Spiritual direction
•   Arts and crafts
•   Group worship

Retreat Leaders: Chester Diocesan Spirituality Group
